XY-Zone Student Support Manager

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The XY-Zone Student Service Manager is responsible for the coordination and delivery of services to at-risk adolescent males at Scarborough High School in the Houston Independent School District. The XY-Zone is an innovative program that supports and guides adolescent males as they journey into manhood. The project works by developing a close relationship with a skilled, caring adult role model, creating a brotherhood of young men, expanding horizons through enrichment experiences and by creating leadership opportunities and a chance to give back to the community.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors degree in social work, counseling/guidance, or related field required plus at least two years experience working with at-risk teen males.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/OBJECTIVES

  • Provide youth development programming to at-risk adolescent males in school and in the community

  • Plan and implement programming on designated campus(es)

  • Provide crisis intervention, assessments, referrals, individual and group supportive guidance

  • Collaborate with other CIS staff to provide education and outreach to partners in the community

  • Complete paperwork as required by funding sources

  • Maintain a positive relationship with CIS and other campus personnel

  • Collaborate with community agencies

  • Coordinate service-learning and recreational activities and field trips

  • Promote and maintain CIS culture, standards, and systems

  • Participate in the CIS team approach to service delivery and problem solving

  • Perform other activities and duties as directed by his/her supervisor

Preferences will be given to applicants with specific skills per funding requirements i.e. bilingual, trilingual, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal/external community.

  • Ability to work with multiple levels of supervision within CIS and the school.

  • Establish a system for information sharing and follow-up

  • Create an atmosphere of shared learning through opportunities for participation, questioning, and sharing of personal experiences

  • Employ a variety of creative and diverse techniques suitable for audience to support learning goals

  • Incorporate a process of feedback to evaluate effectiveness

  • Computer Skills

  • Demonstrate competency with all Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrate ability to formulate appropriate questions to seek out technical support in a timely manner

  • Implement strategies to retain technical information as relevant to job function such as the ability to recall technical instructions, policies and procedures

  • Ability to anticipate and respond to technical needs based upon work environment and changing staff needs such as requesting more or different computer equipment, software, or IT solutions

  • Self-Management Skills

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and proof of liability insurance

  • Demonstrate organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to meet short and long term deadlines.


Reporting Structure: This position is supervised by the Field Director.
