Jaedyie: Prioritizing Her Future

“I first got introduced to CIS through a director from the McKinney-Vento office who told to go to room B114 because they would provide us with the paperwork to apply to get our birth certificates. That day I curiously asked Mrs. Montoya with CIS “what is it that you do”? She explained to me the work she does and what CIS can provide for students. The image of social work I had was painted by what you hear and what you read. But from that day forward I had an increased respect for social workers because I finally felt heard without having to say a single word and I could only imagine how other students felt.

The more and more I went to CIS, I was able to have an amazing experience and gave me more of a chance to know what it is and what I want to do after I graduate high school. CIS has given me the chance to go to Our Lady of the Lake University in the fall 2023.

This school year has been one of the toughest with losing my best friend, family, and the ending of high school, but with CIS I've been able to navigate and find solutions and amazing skills to have for the day that will no longer be able to go to Mrs. Montoya’s office for a solution, but to be able to use the skills she has taught me to find my own solution.

I will forever be grateful for the organization of CIS and Mrs. Montoya for teaching me the skill I have today so thank you CIS and big thank you Mrs. Montoya.”
