Since 1979, Communities In Schools of Houston (CIS) has served students and their families in the Greater Houston Area with a simple mission: to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS collaborates with academic leaders to place a CIS Student Support Manager on campus so that supports are accessible every minute of the school day. With over 300 community partners, CIS provides direct services and additional resources to underserved students. Whether a student needs help with their homework, a place to sleep at night, or mental health and wellness support, CIS is there to help.
CIS has more than 40 years of experience and expertise in delivering Integrated Student Supports to students with unmet needs, including supportive guidance and counseling.
CIS supports students on 167 campuses in Greater Houston who have unmet social, emotional, nutritional, and/or academic needs. A full list of campuses can be found on our website.
Many CIS student support staff are bilingual and speak languages that allow them to communicate with students from different cultures.
Behavioral Health Services:
Brief, Solution-Focused Counseling. Generally, 8 to 10 sessions.
Areas of Focus: assistance with depression, anxiety and adjustment disorders (job loss, grief, geographical move, etc.) that are getting in the way of family relations, job performance, etc. Also, help with parents who are having issues with management of children’s behaviors and children dealing with bullying and other relational issues.

Agency Information
MAM connects families and individuals to opportunities that can lead to increased knowledge, skill, and confidence as they develop their plans for bright futures centered on financial stability, health and wellness, and personal leadership development.
Services include: employment services; financial coaching; adult education such as English as a Second Language, Citizenship Preparation, digital literacy, and GED; immigration legal services, mental health counseling, case management and financial assistance.
Behavioral Health services:
RaiseUp Families provides nine months of comprehensive case management, including a needs assessment, development of a self-sufficiency plan, supportive counseling, and advocacy.

RaiseUp Families assists parents of school-aged children to overcome obstacles through personalized case management. Participating families are required to accept an active role in accomplishing their goals, with the support of case managers who bring exceptional skill and a determined passion to their work. With the right tools, guidance and resources, the parents we help are able to raise up their family, ensuring both a stable home and stronger future.

Santa Maria Hostel is Texas’ largest multi-site gender-specific residential and outpatient substance use treatment center for females and one of a very few to provide a comprehensive continuum of care for pregnant and parenting women and their children. SMH recognizes that women’s experience with substance dependency differs greatly from that of men and responds through client-driven, family-centered, evidence-based, culturally-sensitive and trauma-informed services.
Behavioral Health services:
SBISD provides a variety of mental and behavioral health services and supports to students through Professional School Counselors partner with Communities In Schools (CIS) and Community Youth Services (CYS) and other community partners. In addition, the District’s Guidance and Counseling team coordinates comprehensive support across the district in support of the mental health needs of students, families and staff that impact healthy personal-social development and academic success for all students in school and beyond.
Driven by Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS), System of Care partners with campuses to provide assistance to staff and students. Using the Response to Intervention (RTI) approach, we ensure to impart assistance to our students, creating a sense of belonging for all in SBISD. We provide universal behavior support for all students as well as individual student support based on campus and student need. We also have a Substance Abuse Counselor who leads the district’s first offense Alcohol and Marijuana Program (AMP) for students.
